"Euro elections matter!" say Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrat Councillors1.07.34am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 12th May 2009
Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrat Councillors today highlighted the importance of local people voting in the European elections on June 4. Council Group leader, Stephanie Eaton said "Europe matters! From employment to the environment, from immigration to human rights, the European parliament debates and decides on matters that affect us all. We are hoping for a good turn out on June 4 to support a strong Liberal Democrat team of candidates. We are especially proud that our list includes Jonathan Fryer who lives in Mile End. Jonathan has a fine record of working on equalities issues in Tower Hamlets and across London." In the last few months the European parliament has debated issues such as reducing violence against women, the importance of mother tongue language classes, proposals to attract highly skilled immigrants to Europe and international child abduction. Councillor Azizur Rahman Khan commented: "The issues discussed in the European parliament are important to all Tower Hamlets residents. We need a strong Liberal Democrat voice to represent London in Europe on issues that matter to us. I urge everyone to vote on June 4 and to vote for our local Liberal Democrat team."
